Summer’s Wish Pediatric Cardiology Innovators Fund, was diagnosed with a rare heart condition. She was sent to the emergency department at University of Minnesota Masonic Children’s Hospital a er her pe- diatrician discovered she had a severely enlarged heart. Summer un- derwent multiple open-heart surgeries over the next several months while she waited for a heart transplant.
“Our granddaughter’s life was saved because just minutes away, our community had access to the leading pediatric ventricular assist de- vice specialists in America,” Ostlund says. “ ey were able to sustain the life of a 3-month-old baby until she became the 800th heart trans- plant recipient in the history of M Health Fairview.”
Ostlund is grateful for the care Summer received and works dili- gently to give back to his community and the healthcare system that saved her life.
“ e most rewarding role in my life now is being ‘Bumpa’ Rich to seven young grandchildren — seeing the future through their eyes makes me appreciate that it is such a privilege to have served the com- munity as an M Health Fairview Director,” Ostlund says. “To become Chair on the h anniversary of Summer’s transplant is a special feel- ing, but most importantly, it’s a reminder of just how crucial it is that, each day, I do my best to support our over 34,000 employees help other deserving families.”

Lawyer’s Legacy
Rich Ostlund, Chair of the Board of Directors at Fairview Health Services, has been an attorney for over 30 years. As a business and trial lawyer, he has long been featured in The Best Lawyers in America every year and has been recognized as the Minnesota At- torney of the Year in 2009 by Min- nesota Lawyer. He was selected as the only lawyer from Minnesota by the American Bar Association to be one of the principal authors for the Fourth Edition of Business and Commercial Litigation in the Fed- eral Courts due to his expertise in duciary duty litigation.
“Over 70 professional legal and law school journals across the na- tion have praised the publication as one of the best works of its kind in our profession since its release in early 2017,” says the editor-in- chief of the Business and Com- mercial Litigation in the Federal Courts Fourth Edition.
Ostlund continues to practice law as a senior partner at the An- thony Ostlund law rm in Minne- apolis while carrying out his duties as Chair of the Board of Directors at Fairview Health Services.
