Vaughn also expressed his gratitude for the many mentors who made themselves available to him both inside and outside the rm, among them a former Robins lawyer, the late Eric Jack- son. Although Jackson moved to another rm, he maintained a mentor relationship with Vaughn until his passing last year.
“He made sure I still had con- nections with folks he knew at the rm and had the informa- tion I needed to guide my career trajectory.”
Vaughn’s own advice to ris- ing attorneys. “When you show up, show that you are engaged and willing to sacri ce and add value. e reality is that when people feel you’re committed and loyal to them, not just pro- fessionally, but at a personal lev- el, they want to champion you. Early in my career, I didn’t take opportunities that were solely work-related. I made time to join committees and go to din-
ners the rm sponsored for non- pro t organizations. I was also conscious of seeking opportuni- ties to lighten people’s loads and make their lives easier. It turned out to be very valuable. We are in a relationship business. e more you genuinely develop relationships, the more people are willing to put opportunities before you. Ultimately, though, you have to learn the cra and do well with it.”
At Robins Kaplan, Vaughn is well-poised to go on creating opportunities for equality and justice for people inside and out- side the legal profession. He said, “What prompted me to choose this rm and stay here is the people I work for and with. One of the core values of this rm is making sure everyone has access to justice and the legal system. I continue to feel satis ed profes- sionally with the work I’m doing and the results I’m able to get for people who are seeking justice.”
