EVENT SPOTLIGHT
Wake Women Attorneys Screen
RGB Biopic
The Wake Women Attorneys held a recep- tion at the Alamo Draft House in January for an exclusive screening of the biopic, “On the Basis of Sex.” The lm, starring Fe- licity Jones and Arnie Hammer, focuses on a 1972 a landmark sex discrimination case argued by Ruth Bader Ginsburg.
“Justice Ginsburg really did pave the way for so many of us. Wonderfully, increas- ingly, the number of women on that court and in state courts and federal benches and that’s a really big deal,” said newly ap- pointed NC Supreme Court Chief Justice Cheri Beasley at the reception. “I think it’s absolutely awesome that she’s got this greater lay person’s appeal now.
“I always had the feeling that women can do whatever they wanted to, which wasn’t always true,” said Judge Donna Stroud. “So, I think it’s good for us to remember the history and learn from that.”
The event was sponsored by Settlement Planning Service.
