“We’re going to feed the one meal that matters 300,000 times,” Operation BBQ Relief Co-founder Stan Hayes told me during the group’s three-week deployment in Wilmington.

free meals through the Salvation Army to people who lost their homes or lost electricity during Hurricane Florence last month. I was one of 450 volunteers from the East Coast, the Southeast and the Wilmington area who participated in the relief project. Since being founded in 2011 in Joplin, MO following devastating tornadoes there, Operation BBQ Relief has served over 2 million meals to disaster victims nationwide.
